Point heating systems RKW & components for rail & wagon heating systems

For many years, our RKW electric flat tube heaters have been used by Swiss and foreign railroad companies for all rail profiles and switch types.

In winter with snow, ice, freezing rain and strong temperature fluctuations, the railroad points can no longer be adjusted smoothly, as compressed snow or ice forms between the switch blade and stock rail.

To avoid this interference, a flat tube heating element is fitted between the tongue and stock rail, and in special cases also on the tongue, which keeps the space between the tongue and stock rail free of ice and snow through heat conduction and also through heat radiation.

We supply corresponding flat tube heating elements with a cross-section of 13 x 5.5 mm made of high-quality, Corrosion resistance chromium-nickel steel in various lengths for all switch radii (standard range available at short notice; as well as custom-made products for corresponding quantities).

We also supply heating elements for streetcars with a salt-resistant chromium-nickel steel, material number 1.4876 (Incoloy 800) and 2.4858 (Incoloy 825) in various lengths, capacities and voltages.

Mounting the point heaters

Connection head fastening (stock rail)

We offer various fastening elements for the mechanical connection of the heating element to the Rail foot and for establishing the earthing.

The flat tubular heating elements are attached to the Connection sleeve and the rail profile by means of a connection head fastening.

Connection head fastening (tongue)

We offer a special Fastening kit for fixing the heating rod to the tongue.

Clamping bracket

The remaining part of the flat tubular radiator is attached to the Rail foot using clamping brackets that match the profile. We supply clamping brackets for all common rail profiles, including for the tongues. Clamping brackets for line conductor cables are also available.

SCHUWI protective resistors

SCHUWI protective resistors (to DIN VDE 0123) are used to limit the bearing current.

The resistor interrupts the insulation of the wheelset bearings and thus prevents damage to the bearings. An impermissible increase in contact voltages is prevented and short-circuit currents are dissipated.

The standard resistance is 0.1 Ω or 0.05 Ω.

Antifreeze heaters for water tanks in passenger coaches

We supply frost protection heaters for indoor heating as well as for outdoor heating with a temperature monitor and a safety limiter.

Additional heating element for passenger coaches

These additional radiators are available in various constructive versions.

Frost protection heaters on water pipe connections of passenger coaches

These PTC-based heating elements ensure the operability of filling pipe and drain pipe connections on modern passenger coaches.
